| Dow Corning to “unleash the power of silicon” at HP Fibers’ Bag and Belt Convention in Cologne |
Midland, MI April 25, 2004--At HP Fibers’ 2004 Bag and Belt Convention in Cologne, Germany, on April 28, Dow Corning’s William Blackwood will present “Unleashing the Power of Silicon in the Airbag Industry.”
Dow Corning Corporation produces silicon-based materials used to coat and seal airbags. According to Blackwood, the key to successful airbag applications is to identify the silicone solution that best matches the changing requirements of both the airbag and the manufacturing process.
In his talk, Blackwood will present information about new solutions that can be used to accomplish both objectives. One of those solutions is the development of a novel silicon-modified organic material set for performance coating. This coating technology offers the synergistic performance characteristics of both silicone and organic components in a single textile coating material. Key attributes include film formation at a low coat weight as well as the environmental friendliness and ease of use of a one-part water-based emulsion formulation. Another solution is the development and implementation of a sealing system for sealing sewn seams that is an alternative to OPW technology.
