December 26 2003--Jack Daley, author of Tasting the White Water, will host a book signing at Tracy Books at 76 West 10th Street in Tracy, California on Saturday , January 10, 2004 from 3 to 6 P.M.
Tasting the White Water describes Jack's experience in the white water of three California Rivers, and in the psychological truth of esoteric teachings. Jack, and his friend, Alex, have white water rafting adventures on the Tuolumne, the Stanislaus, and the American rivers while they explore esoteric Christianity through the teachings of Gurdjieff and Krishnamurti. Off the river, Jack explores his nighttime dreams, and copes with the struggle and suffering of a middle class America that has lost its spiritual foundations. The novella of about 20,000 words is written in the autobiographical style of Henry Miller.
Daley, a resident of Salida has recently retired from thirty plus years as a middle school teacher in the Tracy Unified School District. Daley graduated from California State University, Hayward in 1967 with a Master’s in History, and began his career as a public school teacher. He spends much of his spare time studying and putting to practice the teachings of Castaneda, Henry Miller, Gurdjieff, and Krishnamurti, which show that the purpose of life is to reach a higher level of consciousness.
